The Racer X Pro Buggy was featured at the CORR exhibit at the Miramar Air Show. It was a beautiful breezy sunny day that brought lots of Air Show fans out to Miramar. It was a great time. Here are some pictures of the day:

CORR Chula Vista Rounds 11 & 12

CORR Chula Vista was a great weekend. Good crowds and good racing! Both rounds resulted in a 14th place for the Racer X Motorsports #987 Pro Buggy of Mike Cohen. The weather was beautiful and the track conditions were outstanding. We are looking forward to the next race in Chula Vista the first week of December.

Thanks to the Racer X crew who helped out all weekend long and to Kevin McMullen and Company as usual...we appreciate it and couldn't do it without you!!

For the Chula Vista Race in September, the Race will be broadcast live on NBC TV and the Pro Buggy Racers will be part of the opening ceremonies for both Saturday and Sunday events!

The newly geared transmission has just returned from Kevin McMullen Racing and new powder coated parts are returning from ECP Powder Coating. The Car will be back together in the next few days and ready for testing.

The Team is working with Media X RPM to secure some new sponsorship partners for the 2009 Race Season. We are thankful for our 2008 partners and hope to continue promoting your products, services, and brands. For a complete list or our sponsors, check out the list of companies on the sidebar.

Chula Vista Results

It just occurred to us that we hadn't posted any updates on our Chula Vista CORR race. Overall, it was a great weekend. It was beautiful San Diego weather. We moved in first thing on Thursday morning and set up the pit. Friday proved to be a great day as well with practice and qualifying. We geared up for two practice sessions and one qualifying session. But, you know how that goes...Herbst got caught up in the fence during practice and the delay in getting the fence put back together caused the second session of practice to be cancelled...

Saturday brought lots of fans and packed stands. Mike was excited to get out there and race; this was his first time racing at Chula Vista since his first CORR race in September 2007. Things were looking good throughout the race until Mike lost power steering on lap 6...one lap before the competition yellow. Instead of quitting, Mike muscled it out the entire race to finish up 21st. By the way, congratulations to Mike Porter who pulled off an amazing pass on the last lap to take the win...

Following the race, we discovered that the pulley broke off which is what resulted in the loss of power steering. We were lucky enough to have Sheldron Andry of S-Tec Motorsports (sheldonandry@yahoo.com) at the race who was able to take the piece back to his shop overnight in Anaheim and bring us back a new pulley assembly that worked perfect. Thanks to Sheldon!! Also, on Sunday, our engine builder George Jimenez gave the car a quick tune up...

The Sunday race was a good race. There was one bad accident on the 1st lap involving Job. As a result, the field was re-lined up and started over. Unfortunately, we got the short end of the stick on that one...we ended up starting 27th instead of 21st as we qualified. Either way, Mike worked himself up into the top 10 before getting stuck behind an accident on Turn 1 high up on the hill. Luckily he wasn't involved in the accident and was able to finish the race clean with a 16th place finish.

The Volkspower Racing Team had a great weekend as well. Eric Greener was on the podium with a 3rd place in Round 7 and Jeff finished a strong 6th place. Sunday brought Jeff a 6th place and Eric a 16th place. Way to go for the strong showing guys!!

The Team will be skipping the Pomona Race and will be at the next Chula Vista race. See you there.

New CORR Qualifying Procedures

On Friday, July 18, CORR issued new Qualifying Procedures for the upcoming Chula Vista Race this weekend. Here's the information straight from the CORR notice:

Dear Drivers and Teams,

Upon driver check-in at the Registration trailer, drivers will draw for both Saturday and Sunday’s qualifying order.

Depending on the track and its size, a designated number of vehicles will be permitted to race at one time. In Chula Vista, CORR will permit up to 30 vehicles to race in the Pro classes and 35 vehicles in the Single Buggy class.

If the number of registered vehicles exceeds the track capacity, the following procedure will prevail.

In the Pro classes the top 24 drivers with the fastest qualifying times will race in the main event. All drivers who do not qualify in the top 24 will have a second chance to qualify for the remaining 6 positions in a second round of qualifying. The second chance qualifiers will fill the last 6 positions on the track.

In the Single Buggy class the top 29 drivers with the fastest qualifying times will race in the main event and a second chance qualifier will be held for the last 6 positions.

Drivers who fail to qualify for Saturday’s race will have the opportunity to qualify for Sunday’s race. Those failing to qualify will be refunded a portion of their registration fee as follows:

REFUND
Pro 2 and Pro 4 - $350 per day
Pro Lite & Pro Buggy - $200 per day
Single Buggy - $150 per day

Chula Vista Practice

Saturday's practice at Chula Vista turned out great. Despite the warning from CORR of mosquitos (of all things!), it turned out to be a great day for the Racer X Super Buggy Team. The Team had the chance to work on the car set up including the engine, suspension, tires, etc.

Thanks to Fox Shox for finishing up the front shocks before the test and making some new adjustments that turned out great.

Thanks to George Jimenez from Jimenez Racing Engines for coming down for the day and helping with what else...the ENGINE and spotting!!

The Team is now focusing on the Chula Vista Race next week...getting the car cleaned up, changing out engine and transmission fluids and some light prep. See you at Chula Vista.

CORR Practice Tomorrow

Just wrapping up the last few pieces before packing up and heading off to practice at Chula Vista tomorrow. The newly dyno'd and tuned engine is in and ready to run...thanks to George at Jimenez Racing Engines. The shocks have been changed up by Fox...we're trying some new stuff. And, we're trying out some new tires thanks to Maxxis and to Volkspower Racing.

Chula Vista Practice

Happy 4th of July!! We are getting the car ready for the Chula Vista practice session to be held on Saturday July 12 at the Quarry. The engine is going back in the car, the body panels are shined up and ready to go. The tires are on there way...

We just hope that the track conditions are somewhere between the two photos below...not a soupy wet mess or dusty and dry...one can only hope!!

Super Top Secret Engine Dyno Session

Well, the engine dyno day went well for the Racer X Super Buggy and for the Volkspower Racing duo of Jeff and Eric. They left George Jimenez's dyno begging for more!! The Team tried out some new things (cannot describe in detail here!!) on all of the engines. And, I am happy to report that they all left the dyno shop with more horsepower than they started with!! That's all they will let me tell you though!!! Or, they have to kill me!!

The Team is also finalizing Maxxis tire selections for the July Chula Vista race with the help of Jeff over at Volkspower Racing. And the Team is gearing up for practice at Chula Vista on July 12.

Update!!

Just a quick update on what we're working on. The car has been completely cleaned and stripped down. The engine is out...and will be brought up this week to Jimenez Racing Engines in Anaheim (714-535-5116) this week for some dyno time and a bit of "top secret" testing with the Volkspower Racing Team from Arizona.

The Kevin McMullen Racing transmission will remain in the car this time...no need for any service this time around. The team will work on the remainder of the prep and be ready for CORR Rounds 7 and 8 at Chula Vista the last weekend of July.

Last, but not least, we got a little surprise in the mailbox today...The Racer X Pro Buggy on the cover of Whiplash Racing's current issue.

CORR Las Vegas Race Update

HOT HOT HOT !! For all of you who came to the CORR race in Las Vegas you know what I am talking about. It was VERY Hot; well over 100 on Sunday. The Racer X and Volkspower Racing got to the track early...actually 1 day early...see all the pro team semis lined up in front of us? We had to wait until they were all moved in until we were able to move in.
The Racer X and Volkspower Racing Team were able to snag a pit spot that were all adjacent and allowed us to pit all of the cars under the same tent...that worked out great.

The Volkspower Racing Team of Jeff Knupp and Eric Greener drove their Volkspowered cars to three top ten finishes for the weekend. Jeff finished 7th place in Round 3 and 5th place in Round 4. While Eric finished 13th place and 7th place respectively. Great job!!Mike drove his Racer X Motorsports Pro Buggy to a Sixth place finish in the B Main on Saturday and to a 13th Place Finish in the Main Event on Sunday. With the new engine, the car had much more power than our last visit to Las Vegas. And, the engine worked great. The team worked all weekend to tweak the car's setup to match the conditions of the track which varied from VERY wet and slippery to dry and dusty. The Team was happy with the car's performance and the continued improvement on the lap times. Our goal each time is to improve our lap times and our overall performance.

Thanks again to the Volkspower Racing Team and to Kevin McMullen and Jeremy James for all of their help. We will now begin tearing down the car and engine to get ready for the next CORR race in Chula Vista in July.

Gearing Up for Las Vegas

The Team is gearing up for Las Vegas. With a short three weeks between races, it's a quick turnaround. Last weekend was spent getting the trailer and motorhome cleaned, organized and ready for the trip to the Las Vegas (really Primm) CORR race.

The Team has worked on the car (thanks to Chris Olimon) and has a few more hours of prep work. It is expected that the car will be ready to go before the end of the weekend.

We will be arriving at the track next Thursday to set up. We are excited to race...let's hope the weather isn't as windy as the last Primm race in November!! See you at the races.

Racer X Super Buggy Takes 3rd Place

Our trip to Firebird Raceway for the Whiplash Short Course/Grand Prix event was great. We teamed up with the guys (Eric and Jeff) at Volkspower Racing and had a great time. The weather was hot with temperatures reaching the high 90s ...but what do you expect in Arizona.Saturday started off with practice...the Racer X Super Buggy started out the practice great but stopped shortly only to discover that a nut had come loose in the clutch. With a quick fix by Kevin McMullen, Mike was back out to practice the last few laps of the session. The afternoon brought the heat race for the Buggy class. Eric, Mike and Jeff all did well in the heats. It was particularly fun to see Eric and Jeff in the turns and the rough of the short course track.

Sunday brought the main event which included short course super buggys, single buggys and even a pro lite along with desert cars (and even two trucks). The Racer X Super Buggy finished third behind a first place Super Buggy Ron Dalke and a Second Place Pro Lite. If you're splitting hairs, he really finished second place in the Super Buggy Class. It was a great race for the Racer X Super Buggy Team...the Alumi Craft Super Buggy performed great as well as the Toyota Engine. The grooved Maxxis tires performed great as well as the new Douglas Wheels.

Jeff Knupp won the Single Buggy class and unfortunately, Eric Greener was out early in the race with a mechanical problem.

Thanks to the guys at Volkspower Racing ... we had a great time pitting together and we look forward to teaming up at the next race...CORR in Las Vegas May 17 and 18.

Ready to Race

The Team is ready to race. The car is ready to go...there are a few little things to button up. The Maxxis tires have been grooved and the car is ready to be loaded into the trailer.There has been a slight change in plans though. We were geared up to go to Pomona for the CORR race, but we have changed our plans!! Due to the lack or information and lack of organization with the CORR race, we will be attending the Grand Prix short course race put on by Whiplash Racing in Arizona. The race is going to be held at Firebird Raceway in Chandler, Arizona and promises to be a great event. We wish those of you racing CORR a great race and we plan on seeing you at the next CORR race in Las Vegas! For those of you in Phoenix, be sure to visit us in the pits!!!

Practice Makes Perfect....

Last Friday's practice went great. We had to tie up a bunch of loose ends before we left the race shop...but we arrived at the Elsinore track at about 1pm. John Cooley, Randy Minnier and Chuck Cheek were all there with their Alumi Craft Super Buggies and Greg from Competetive Metals was there with his Alumi Craft Single Buggy. For the most part, the track was all for the Alumi Craft buggies. There was one Pro Lite that showed up and the Pflueger Pro 2, but they were there for a short time. The day went well with Mike able to do several runs. It was great for him to get out there and just get a feel for the car and to try out that new engine! Everything worked well and Mike's times improved with each practice session. Thanks to John Cooley and his crew at Alumi Craft for help at the track along with Ron Attig ... calling the shots on the radio..THANKS. Thanks for Douglas Wheels for showing up to check out the new wheels we were testing...looks like they are going to work great. Thanks to all who helped us pull the car together in the last few weeks to get it running...
We have a few tweaks and changes this week to make and plan to test one more time this Friday at Lake Elsinore. Then, off to the races next week in Pomona. At least, that is our plan. We are still waiting for CORR to provide information regarding the race ... Will the buggies race Saturday and Sunday? Will there be a qualifier? What is the schedule for check in, tech, driver's meetings, etc? It's a bit hard to sign up and pay over $2k for a race (entry fee plus crew credentials) when you are not even sure what the schedule is...why pay if you are only scheduled to race on one day!! We are trying to obtain clarification from CORR, but are not getting any answers???? A bit frustrating...we will keep you updated. As for now, we are scheduled for Pomona...

Test Day is Friday!

Well things are coming together and the Team is scheduled for practice this Friday up at Lake Elsinore. The Maxxis Tires arrived yesterday and were promptly mounted on the "test" Douglas Wheels.

The Team will work tonight to finish up some loose ends including some plumbing and electrical items. The plan is to load up the trailer tomorrow and leave at the crack of dawn on Friday for a full day of testing. Thanks again to all those who helped make it happen.

Manifold and Exhaust

In the last couple of weeks there have been two people that have helped our team out a great deal in the development of a new engine manifold and exhaust.

Don Prim has worked with Mike extensively to develop a "top secret" new manifold. We want to thank him for all the hard work and attention to detail. The new manifold will be tested soon!

Second, we want to thank Shane Johnson who developed a new Exhaust for the car that is amazing (see above)! Shane is truly amazing at what he does and we want to thank him for all his quick and hard work. You can reach Shane at Speed Force Racing in Santee, CA at 619-328-4012.

Making Progress

The Team is making progress. We were really hoping to make it to the CORR test last weekend in Primm, Nevada. But, it just didn't come together. You know how Murphy's law works? Well, you could definitely apply it here!

Our team tried very hard to help us make the test...they worked tirelessly on Thursday night putting in the new engine that was delivered the late Thursday from Greg Peterson (THANKS GREG) in Washington via freight company. The engine was really supposed to be there on Wednesday, but there was a mix up with the freight company. The team worked hard to get the engine installed and running late Thursday night (about 2am). The new engine is a dry sump where the other engine is not so there was some moving around of plumbing and electrical that took more time than expected and the flywheel bolts were not fitting as they should! Needless to say, the guys worked very hard and we are thankful for all of their hard work. THANKS TO MATT, DONNY, BOBBY, CHRIS AND RON.....

While the engine was in and ready to go, there were still some loose ends to tie up...well, not really loose ends. We were expecting the delivery of our wheels from Douglas Racing and our tires from Maxxis Tires. You can't race without wheels and tires!! Here are the Douglas Wheels ready to be mounted on the Maxxis Tires...due in tomorrow!

With things not coming together as planned and everything being a bit rushed, we decided it was best to skip this practice and spend the time going over the car to make sure it was race ready. So, Troy and Ronnie joined us on Saturday to clean up the shop and to go over the car and make a list of the things that still needed to be checked. While we could have still practiced on Saturday, it was good time spent checking over the car and tying up loose ends. As it ended up, there were a few items here and there that still needed a little tweaking! Here's our mini-mechanic Troy who helped us on Saturday....THANKS!

The Team is planning on testing later this week at Lake Elsinore. I will keep you posted.
